Homework
I think parents hate homework more than the kids do......Work 9 hours a day then come home and work another 3 hours on homework. And somewhere in there we have to cook dinner too. Calgone take me away...... At least they are willing to get started without complaint (for the time being)......

We Made It
We made it through our first week of school and alls well. McKenzie loves her teacher, Austin is adjusting and thank goodness we have routine again. McKenzie decided to try-out for "Young Little Singers" at Royall Elementary School. This chorus group is made up of 4th - 6th grader at her school and performs at APTS and special event functions throughout the year. Today the big announcement was made over the school intercom indicating who was selected and McKenzie heard her name. I guess crossing your fingers does work after all.....What confidence this has brought her. Congrats McKenzie!

What a week so far-
It has been a couple of days now and Austin's arm seems to be doing as well as can be expected just a lot of swelling still. He doesn't like being left handed but is making the best of it - his handwriting has never been the best but is now down right illegible. Yesterday school started for most of us (not Blake) so we are attempting to get back into a normal routine including homework (YUCK!) and bedtime. Fate also changed my name yesterday to "Grace" as I slide down our back brick stairs into the backyard while attempting to help Austin get ready for school......THANK GOD I didn't break anything although I feel like a complete moron and hurt like all get out today. On a lighter side I caught McKenzie and Dad in a fencing competition with the empty Reynolds Wrap Aluminum container while I attempted to cook dinner.....they got so tickled seeing who could win. It was a draw.......

OUCH!
We have just gotten home from McLeod Emergency Room with Austin. Around 3:30 p.m. Austin and a couple of friends went to the Skate Park and about 30 minutes later we received a phone call stating they think Austin is hurt. We rushed over to the Park and found everyone huddled around Austin with what clearly appeared to be a broken wrist (it looked like a swan's neck). We scooped him up and off we went for a long wait in the ER. To our surprise the wait was not long at all because we just so happened to be right behind another child that had the same type of injury except his was a football injury. The Pediatric Orthopedic Doctor, Peds Orthopedic Assistant and Anesthesiologists were already assembled and ready for us. After x-rays, IV and a dose of morphine he was off to surgery. Thank goodness no pins, plates or bolts although it was an ugly complete break of both bones just above the growth plates (which is just above your actual wrist bone). He is now in a soft cast for two weeks then will go to a hard cast for four weeks then another soft cast for two more weeks. He is resting well right now AND all I can now think about is beginning high school with a broken wrist and mandatory arm sling. How will he take notes, how will he do homework.....does this mean I will have to write his homework????? Thank GOD he was wearing all his safety equipment; it could have been a lot worse.Friday, August 17, 2007

Update from the West Coast
Just talked with Blake in California. All three boys are having a blast. So far they have gone to an Angels baseball game, rode thrill rides at Magic Mountain, visited the Redwood Forest, walked Hollywood Boulevard and today off to the California Beaches to spend the night before heading home tomorrow afternoon. Can't wait to see his pictures.

Blake's Home
It's That Time Again

School Registration!!!
After much anticipation McKenzie found out who her teacher will be.......Mrs. Denny!! At Royall you really can't go wrong with any teacher but it is wonderful as a child to get "the exact teacher I really wanted". We consider every experience at Royall a blessing and every year an adventure in learning. Can't wait (except for homework).......

Sanibel Wildlife

I enjoyed bird watching this time. We saw lots of egrets, spoonbills, pelicans and herons. We even saw six raccoons (and they were not dead). We were so impressed with one raccoon that Stan had to drive our car right beside the dumpster diver. Let me tell you that raccoon was good - he just watched us as he ate his dinner from Dairy Queen.
